Hello, Lucid fans! I am delighted to welcome Bryan Stewart my current homie in Charlotte, NC—as my guest on this week’s Lucid Driver podcast. In reality, I live in Mooresville a suburb of Charlotte, and I stress current because I am in the process of relocating. For the time being though Bryan and I are homies even though I have never seen another Lucid in Charlotte or Mooresville—except that one time I went to a Charlotte owners’ event and the parking lot was awash with Lucid Airs.  Bryan is the owner of a beautiful Lucid Air Touring, the second Lucid he has owned.

Bryan told me, “I first started exploring electric vehicles around 2016. I took a few test drives of the Model S and Model X, but they didn’t quite meet my needs. In 2023, while I was in Dallas on business, I test drove a Lucid GT, and around the same time, a friend of mine purchased one. I loved the ride and the range of that vehicle. I mentioned to my wife that I wished I could do a 2-to-3-month EV rental to see what living with an EV would be like.

In 2024, I received an email from Lucid about their leasing options. I visited their website and found a 2024 Air Pure (RWD), which only had the 20-way seats as an option. My wife wanted massage seats, so I decided to go with it. I signed an 18-month lease with a limit of 15,000 miles. After owning the car for about two months, I realized I wasn't going back to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

My Air Pure had an estimated range of 420 miles, which was more than enough for me since I’m not a frequent long-distance driver. I discovered that I charge my car more out of convenience than necessity. My wife and I typically stop every 2 to 3 hours to stretch, and during those breaks, I just charge the car. Thankfully, I've had a good experience with DC fast charging (DCFC). Although I’ve encountered broken chargers, there’s usually another one available.

When it was time to upgrade to a new EV, I decided to move up to the Air Touring. I opted for all the features except the glass roof since that’s not my preference. So far, it has been a great experience. While I’m not a speed enthusiast, I appreciate the 620 hp, even if it doesn’t excite me. My ideal Lucid would be an Air Pure with a battery pack like that of the Grand Touring. Something about an EV with over 500 miles of range.

In comparing the Pure to the Touring, I really enjoy the quietness of the Pure, particularly due to its rear-wheel drive. However, I believe the Touring handles better because of its all-wheel drive. In my opinion, the Touring is Lucid’s sweet spot within the Air lineup."
